Connecticut Style features Dr. Timothy Ehrlich
by
Timothy
Griffin Hospital Bariatrics was featured on the morning show of WTHN named Connecticut Style. There, Timothy Ehrlich MD, FACS and his 6 years Lap-Band surgery patient, Rosie Navarro spoke with the host of the show about the benefits of bariatric surgery.
The subject that they talked about was obesity as an epidemic, how the numbers have grown a lot these years, one third of the Americans being obese nowadays and how metabolic surgery is one tool trying to solve it. The numbers are affecting Connecticut too, which used to be a healthy state in comparison with the other states in the US. Dr. Timothy Ehrlich says that the obesity rates have doubled during the last years in CT.
Obesity is a disease that affects teenagers too, as this will be the first generation of teenagers not to outlive their parents because of obesity and its related health issues. Also, the total percentaje of children affected with obesity -16%- rised a lot, being very near to the addults’ percentage of obesity.
Another subject discussed at the morning show was the difference between gastric bypass and lap-band surgery.
Lab Band Surgery
is a procedure which does not make people lose as much weight as a
gastric-bypass
, but it is adjustable and reversable procedure, which a gastric bypass is not.
Rosie Navarro says how she lost 80 lbs. and why she chose bariatric surgery 6 years ago, when fewer information on these tool existed. She has a history of heart disease in her family and the doctors told her that her heart beat is not regular. Then she decided she needs to change her life and do something in terms of medical change. She chose the lap-band surgery because she thought the changes will come slowly and she would have time to adapt to the new life.
Another interesting point debated at the morning show was related to the success stories and how they are tracked, but success is something individual and subjective and is not necessarily related to the pounds lost.
